The short answer
For North Miami homes and businesses, about six miles east of Miami Gardens, we follow a clear sequence: photos and questions, an on-site assessment, wall preparation, installation and a final walkthrough. Every step accounts for local humidity and building types.
North Miami is about six miles east of our Miami Gardens base and spreads across four ZIP codes: 33160, 33161, 33168 and 33181. Homes there range from mid-century block houses on quiet residential streets to condo buildings near the water on the eastern side of the city. People who have never hired a wallpaper installer often ask what actually happens from the first message to the moment the furniture goes back in place. So instead of a general overview, this page follows a typical North Miami project step by step, pointing out where local conditions such as humidity, older construction and storm season change the plan.
Step one: photos, measurements and a few questions
Most projects begin with a handful of phone photos and rough wall dimensions. From those we can usually tell whether a wall has texture, old paper, visible cracks or moisture marks. We also ask which product you have in mind, whether it has already been purchased, and how the room is used. A guest bedroom and a steamy family bathroom call for different materials.
If you have not picked a product yet, we can talk through options: traditional paste-the-wall papers, prepasted rolls, grasscloth, vinyl, murals or peel and stick. Each one suits different rooms and levels of upkeep.
Step two: the on-site assessment
Photos only show so much, so before any large job we visit. In North Miami that visit often reveals details specific to the house. Older block homes can have plaster walls that sound hollow in spots. Rooms added on later may combine drywall and plaster on the same wall. Condo units on the eastern side sometimes show moisture along exterior walls where cool interiors meet warm, humid air outside.
We take moisture readings, check how square the corners are, look for old adhesive and measure precisely so the roll count accounts for the pattern repeat. You then receive a written scope describing what preparation and installation the job includes.
Step three: preparing the walls
Preparation is where most of the quality comes from. Depending on what the assessment found, this stage can include several tasks:
- Stripping existing wallpaper and washing away the old paste.
- Cutting out and refilling loose plaster or cracked joint compound.
- Sealing torn drywall paper with a primer that keeps it from blistering.
- Skim coating rough or textured walls until they are flat.
- Applying a wallpaper primer that improves adhesion and makes future removal easier.
- Letting everything dry fully, which takes longer in the wet months.
Step four: hanging the paper
On installation day, furniture is moved away from the walls, floors are covered and outlet plates come off. We start from a plumb line, not a corner, because corners in older houses are rarely true. Each strip is booked or pasted according to the manufacturer's instructions, matched to the previous one and smoothed from the center outward. Accent walls, murals and ceilings each get their own layout, worked out before the first cut so the focal point sits where your eye lands.
With grasscloth, we lay out panels in advance and hang them in sequence to manage the natural color variation. With murals, we dry-fit the panels to confirm the image is centered.
Step five: walkthrough and care
When the last strip is up, outlet covers go back on, and we walk the room with you to check seams, edges and pattern alignment. We explain how to clean the specific material you chose and how long to wait before hanging artwork.
North Miami's wet season, from May through October, brings heat, humidity and afternoon thunderstorms, while November into April stays warmer and drier. Keep the air conditioning running steadily for several days after installation so the paste cures evenly. Hurricane season, June 1 to November 30, can shift any date on the calendar, and we will reschedule if a storm is on the way.
